Scripture: Psalm 12:1-8
Title: Problem, Prayer, Promise, and Paradox
Worship Leader: Dawson Estes
Speaker: Tyler Estes

Save, O LORD, for the godly one is gone; for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man. Everyone utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak. May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts, those who say, "With our tongue we will prevail, our lips are with us; who is master over us?" "Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan, I will now arise," says the LORD; "I will place him in the safety for which he longs." The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. You, O LORD, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever. On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man.

A. When God says He will act, it is as good as done
B. Consider your Bible: God speaks to you through this book
C. The word of God is pure
D. The word of God is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness

4. Note the paradox at the end
A. God's promise and the present reality
B. What do we make of "I will now arise?"

5. Applications
A. Do not despair
B. Do not abandon the word of God
C. Do not exalt wickedness
D. Instead of exalting wickedness, exalt goodness

10/15/2023 Worship Service and Sermon: We Live by Surrendering - Romans 8:12-17

10/15/2023 Worship Service and Sermon from Brick Lane Community Church in Elverson, PA.

Worship Leader: Tyler Estes
Speaker: Rev. Matt Carter
Scripture: Romans 8:12-17
Title: We Live by Surrendering

Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation--but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

1. Which is easier: fight or surrender?

2. The deceitfulness of our sinful nature
A. Promises fulfillment, but doesn't deliver
B. Surrender to our sinful nature produces death

3. The life-giving leadership of the Holy Spirit
A. Those led by the Holy Spirit are children of God

4. Application

4/16/2023 Worship Service and Sermon: Christians Refuse to Lose Heart - 2 Corinthians 4:1-6

Join us for worship!

4/16/2023 Worship Service and Sermon from Brick Lane Community Church in Elverson, PA.

Worship Leader: Tyler Estes
Sermon: Steve Estes
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:1-6
Title: Christians Refusing to Lose Heart

Therefore, since through God's mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of the age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," make his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ.

Notes:

1. Christians are sorely tempted to lose heart

2. Reasons a Christian might lose heart
A. Paul will mention many reasons later in 2 Corinthians
B. One reason mentioned in these verses: Lack of success in ministry

3. Christians who lose heart may be tempted to change the gospel message
A. Describing "changing the gospel message"
B. The opposite of changing the gospel message

4. Christians who lose heart may be tempted to make themselves more important than the message (preach themselves)
A. Describing "preach themselves"
B. The opposite of preaching themselves

5. Why does Paul not lose heart? Two reasons in these verses, with more to come
A. God has shown him great mercy
B. God can penetrate the deepest darkness

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up." - Daniel 3:16-18
